As a bit of an update on my original Twitter article . . .

I have a number of Twitter accounts, each I'm using for a different purpose (nothing bad, just different accounts for different sites and clients), but what's troubling me is the number of Direct Messages that are now starting to arrive ('DM' for short in the Twitter vernacular) that are clearly not authored by the account owner they're originating from. (In Twitter-speak, I'm getting DM's from people I'm following . . . but it's clear the DM's aren't legitimate.)

This is on top of the clear SPAM that's arriving in the form of obviously auto-created Twitter accounts that are being created to do nothing but auto-spam or, worse, auto-infect people's computers with viruses.

It's clear to me -- because we're constantly seeing more and more of this type of behavior, in more and more forms -- that Twitter is gaining recognition, traction, and constantly broadened use.

So treat this as an escalation of the original concern that mirrors the clear intent as critiqued very well by Judith Hurwitz on how the Twitter team is likely working to turn Twitter into something even greater.

Is it possible that such viruses or spam could be spread
through chat boards like imdb.com? That are also known
to have fake or duplicate accounts, otherwise known
as sock puppets.
